Stalemate

Since our holidays I have felt a bit down, moody, and very irritable but for no good reason. Nothing has happened and I am pretty sure it's not just my 'hormones'.

I just feel like I am going no where at moment, I have a HUGE list of things to do and none of it is getting done, I want to get out and do things but but don't feel confident on my own with Alex at the moment as I am really struggling to push him along in the pushchair and get about at the moment (I don't drive) as sometimes I do still get dizzy spells. We haven't even decided on any names for the baby yet, and when I ask James he just says " we have plenty of time" like there is no urgency...it's the same with the list of DIY we have to do before baby comes along too! I know he's busy and shattered when he comes in, but I just want a few things sorted around the house as it's driving me mad, especially being here most days staring at the same four walls!

I am also really craving starting up making some craft things to sell, but can't afford the bits I want to be able to make them, and I also have no idea how you go about selling your own products. I have spent far too much time online trying to make sense of it but my baby brain just isn't having any of it, and then I seem to drift over to Pinterest where my craft and Christmas idea boards are over spilling with things to do, but mainly with objects I don't have! Just wondering if anyone knows who reads my blog, if you want to sell handmade things do you have to set up as a business and buy insurance etc, or can you just make and sell as long as you inform the tax office?

At least next week we should hopefully be getting some new Pax wardrobes from Ikea for our bedroom, which should hopefully free up some space in our small house (although I am sure they will soon fill up). We are hoping to to move all of James' clothes and stuff from his cupboard in the hallway so then that can be used for household things and possibly babies/Alex's things at a later date. I can't wait to get started on sorting things out though I have been desperate to do so the last couple of weeks (I am a bit sad and like to organise and sort...especially when pregnant) but can't do so until the wardrobes are up! It will be good to finally have our room properly finished after decorating it a couple of months ago.

Alex has also been a nightmare recently, I think he is bored of mainly being at home all the time and therefore a bit bored of me, I still don't have the energy to do much with him which is really frustrating me as I feel I am just being a rubbish Mother and letting Cbeebies take over a little bit too much! Since coming back from holiday bedtimes have been such a struggle and we keep having tantrums about it, and lots of mini tantrums in the day too over silly things, we even had a 5am tantrum last night which is something I haven't had to deal with for such a long time!

So yeah, just a bit fed up of my mind wanting to do things, but my body failing me. I need more energy!!

  1. I hope that you feel more on top of things soon. We have a Pax wardrobe, it's brilliant, you can fit so much in! With the handmade stuff, I think as long as you inform the tax office you will be fine (although don't rely on me as I've not done it!). I don't think you need insurance, but cover yourself e.g. make sure that if something could be given as a toy you say it has not been designed for babies and may have small parts, that kind of thing. Good luck!

    1. Thank you. I can't wait until we get them, it's great how you can tailor it for your needs too-looking forward to sorting out all of our stuff, and finding places for it all! Yes think it is ok to sell online without insurance (if I have read correctly, but some fairs you need it...I think, a bit confusing)!

  3. Hiya, I feel your pain but do not have the excuse of being pregnant! Do you ever read craftseller magazine? I've been thinking about doing a Christmas market but then ask myself when I would ever find the time to make enough stuff to fill a stall!! You could open an etsy account make a few items and take it from there? having the money is one thing, but if youve already made some examples and have photos of things you've made you could start by advertising those and give them a two week lead time to make so people could buy them and then you have a couple of weeks and the funds from the sale to buy and make them??? Especially if they are personalised items....

    1. No I haven't seen that maagazine before, I shall have to look out for it. Yes I think exactly the same, I always doubt whether I have the motivation and drive to really do it. That's a good idea actually, would mean that it would give me a bit longer to make the items too! Good luck if you do decide to do a Christmas market!

  4. Hello..I can identify with a lot of this. I've been irritable lately too. Yes, agree with the comments about names and also about getting organised too and the lack of energy! Do you have any family that could come and help you get organised for a couple of days? My Mum and Dad came for a couple of days this week and helped me sort out all the old baby clothes/ build cot etc and it really helped - and I think they really enjoyed helping too. Or even if you have some family who could look after Alex whilst you get stuff organised yourself, that may help?

In terms of ideas for marketing crafty things, I'm not a crafty person, but could you put a tab on your blog with the sorts of things you make/ sell - with your contact details if people are interested, and you could also put links here to etsy/ folksy? or even a facebook page. I recently was looking at sock monkeys and the woman in question had just created a facebook page for these and liaised with potential buyers mainly through that I think. x

    1. We do have family close by, but our parents all work and already look after Alex on Sunday's most weeks, so don't really like to ask too much (although I think come December I may do just a little bit more ;)) Bet that was great getting it sorted with your parents help.

Yes the Facebook page is something I am interested in doing-I'm just not 100% sure on the ins and outs yet. Some places I have read that your need insurance, some say you don't, bit confusing! x

  5. ooh i like the new blog colours hun :) sorry to hear you have been feeling like that, it must be very tough when you cant just get on and do the decorating, but try not to beat yourself up about it- pregnancy is a valid reason not to get on with stuff. me and chris are rubbish about finishing stuff and we have no excuse whatsoever. sending lots of love and positive thoughts xxxx

    1. Thanks, fancied a bit of a change, plus I am not even really a 'pink' girl so don't know why I had the last style haha. Thanks, glad it's not just us! Thing is me and James are rubbish at finishing things usually-but I would usually finish it at some point when I realise James isn't going to do it with me and it annoys me so much! It's just frustrating me as want it all done and I think I was in a bad mood when I posted this too :) xxx
